Jade Yoga Mats ~ Product Review

FTC Disclaimer: This review is my own unsolicited opinion. I have bought all of my Jade Yoga Mats with my own money. Jade has not given me any products for review or to giveaway.

Have You Heard of Jade Yoga Mats?

The story of how Jade Yoga Mats came to be is pretty cool actually this is quoted form Jade’s website.

“Jade Industries started in 1974 to solve a problem for oriental rug buyers around the world – there were no high-quality rug pads to go under fine oriental rugs to provide cushion and prevent them from slipping.   The solution to this problem was natural rubber and Jade began making natural rubber rug pads to go under area rugs.

The solution to this problem was natural rubber and Jade began making natural rubber rug pads to go under area rugs.

In fact, the birth of JadeYoga really brought yoga mats full circle as one of the first known yoga mats was a rug pad. As the story goes, B.K.S. Iyengar was in the United States doing a demonstration on an oriental rug, but he was slipping – a student took away the rug – leaving the pad and the first yoga mat. Strangely, the yoga mat that became the norm from here was made with cheap, imitation plastic – or PVC. It was also annoyingly slippery – almost useless for most practices and likely toxic.

JadeYoga began in earnest in 2000 after we learned of the fundamental problem with most yoga mats on the market at that time – they were slippery. As we were already making natural rubber rug pads, we approached the problem from that angle and developed Harmony, the first natural rubber yoga mat.”

My First Jade Yoga Mat

A few years ago, I decided to order my first Jade Yoga Mat. I heard so many good things from Yogini’s and Yogi’s I respect and admire about the quality and ethics of Jade Mats and Jade as a company.

Because I am equal parts tree-hugger and punk rock having my Yoga equipment be as environmentally sound as possible.

Jade Yoga Mats are a premium mat and I tend to be thrifty by nature, so I was a bit skeptical as to whether or not they would live up to the hype. So I ordered my first Jade Mat; the professional 24 X 74 (in purple of course). It was love at first Downward Dog and there was no going back.

I have bought several now, and have one at each location I teach at. They are the only mat I currently use and recommend.

In the video below I’ll talk a bit more about why I love Jade Yoga Mats and how they have become my go too choice for me and the mat I always recommend to students.

Jade Yoga Mat Review Highlights

1 star for natural and sustainable

1 star for giving back by planting a tree for every mat bought

1 star for made in the US (sweatshop-free)

1 star for Kick-Ass Quality (best mat I have used to date)

My current mat is a bit ratty – it is weirdly sticky and slippery at the same time. I would love to win one of these in purple! (Or green!)

    Hi Nyk,
Should I be the one chosen at random in the Jade yoga mat draw, my favourite colour choice would be………midnight (I love the soothing blue tone).
    Thanks for your generosity!

Hi Nyk, purple is the colour of mat that I would like to win because it is Deb’s favourite colour and if I won, I’d give the mat to her as I already have my own Jade yoga mat. Cheers!
