This post is about using Deer pose as a release for tight hips. You can see how to use Deer pose as a twist<a href=\"https:\/\/nykdanu.com\/students\/back-stretch-twisted-deer-pose\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"> here.<\/a><\/p>\n<p><em>This particular hip opener can be <\/em>practiced<em> with a short (Yang) or long (Yin) hold depending on your needs.<\/em> Although I demonstrate this pose briefly in the video, you could spend anywhere\u00a0from 1-5 min in the pose on each side.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-3460 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/nykdanu.com\/students\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/Depositphotos_76880885_s-2015.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"500\" srcset=\"https:\/\/nykdanu.com\/students\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/Depositphotos_76880885_s-2015.jpg 500w, https:\/\/nykdanu.com\/students\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/Depositphotos_76880885_s-2015-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/nykdanu.com\/students\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/Depositphotos_76880885_s-2015-300x300.jpg 300w, https:\/\/nykdanu.com\/students\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/Depositphotos_76880885_s-2015-260x260.jpg 260w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Depending on your particular bone structure, one or both knees could be unhappy, so <em>if you feel discomfort in either knee, try sitting up on more height. If that doesn&#8217;t take care of the discomfort, then don&#8217;t do this pose, and find a different Yoga asana to release your hips<\/em>. You either have\u00a0the\u00a0bone structure to practice this safely or not. <strong>Don&#8217;t suffer through it hoping that &#8216;someday&#8217; when your hips open, your knees won&#8217;t suffer in this pose. Instead, just listen to your body and choose another pose.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This particular hip pose is pretty unique in that you get to explore both internal (back leg) and external (front leg) rotation of the hip joint in one Asana.<\/p>\n<p>In the video below, I&#8217;ll walk you through the &#8216;how to&#8217;
