Yin Yoga for Tight Hips (a video practice)
Many of us have tight hips. In fact, one of the most common requests I get in my Yin Yoga classes is for poses to help with tight hips. This tightness in our hips is often caused by the amount of time we spend sitting in chairs. We may not be aware of that because we are culturally so used to sitting in chairs that it has become normal for us.
But sitting at a desk all day is anything but normal, and in fact, not healthy for our bodies. You can hear me rant a little about the evils of chairs in this video.
You might be thinking, yeah but I have to sit at a desk all day and that’s likely true for many so I wrote a post on ways to help with that here.
OK so now you might be thinking, isn’t all yoga going to help my tight hips? Well, the answer to that is yes and no.
So while it’s true that any stretching of the muscles of your hips will help, often the issue isn’t just the muscles but the particularly deep fascia. You see when we spend large amounts of time sitting in the same positions day after day month after month, year after year it really tightens up not only the muscles in our hips but also the fascia.
And when we want to work with deep fascia well, that is Yin Yoga’s super-power. It’s because tight hips are so common that I created this sequence.
If you have tight hips you are gonna love this Yin Yoga sequence!
In this video below I will walk you through a Yin Yoga sequence for your hips. There are many variations in this sequence to keep things accessible for a wide range of different bodies.
It would be great to book-mark this and do this practice when you are finished working for the day.
Here’s to happy hips
